The fjallraven KEB trousers are made from Fjällräven’s proprietary G-1000 Eco fabric, which is a blend of polyester and cotton. For additional waterproofing, Fjällräven also offers a Greenland Wax Impregnation, providing an environmentally friendly alternative. Design:
The KEB trousers have a functional design with articulated knees and a gusseted crotch for improved freedom of movement. The pants feature 4 pockets (two hand pockets plus two leg pockets with buttoned flaps), one with an interior mesh pocket, great for additional safekeeping of valuables. The KEB also feature 4 leg vents (2 on the upper legs + 2 on the calves) with 2 way zippers, keeping hikers cool in warmer weather. The pant cuff is highly adjustable. Using a cleverly hidden elastic strap (when not in use), the cuff can be adjusted and securely fastened using 2 metal snaps. The system can support large boots with its generous pant leg opening up to low cut shoes. The cuff tension provides a good barrier to air ingress and the elements. The pants also come engineered with knee pad openings. All sizes come in 3 lengths (short, regular and long) to accommodate a broader range of users.

Field Tested:
In February of 2024, the Fjällräven Keb trousers came along for a 2 day winter hike through the Great Canadian Shield. The weather was generally sunny but varied in temperatures between -10C to 2C. The first observation while wearing these pants was that they excelled at breaking the wind. Layered over a thin base layer, they provided all the warm needed for such a hike. As the temperature rose throughout the days, the 4 leg vents provided just the right amount of ventilation required to keep the legs cool and dry. I have to applaud Fjallraven for using zippers that easily open and close using 1 hand. Not once did any of the zippers jam. Additionally, there are 2 zippers per vent, allowing for the vents to be opened in either direction.
While it wasn’t raining nor snowing, not once did the pants get wet due to snow melting. The cuffs never even showed signs of wetness either. Fjallraven’s claim that the pants are water resistant are true. They also offer a wax impregnation to be reapplied to maintain/improve impermeability, which I have not yet tried.
In terms of fit, the pants are on point. I typically wear a size 32 waist, and these fit me perfectly. Their best feature is definitely their fit. With shaped knees, a stretchy inner leg and adjustable cuff, I was never hindered in any of my movements. Walking through deep snow, climbing rock faces or traversing snow covered bridges, these pants never limited my mobility.
Short term durability was great. Even while bushwhacking through thorns and bushes, or scraping them on granite while climbing rock walls, they showed no signs of wear.
Overall, the Fjällräven Keb trousers are a fantastic hiking / trekking path. They fit just right, never restricting movement, nor being too baggy. As for cost, Fjallraven is a premium brand, justified by quality materials, great design, comfort, and a corporate effort at keeping their products sustainable and environmentally conscious. I would buy these pants again, and will definitely seek out other models.
