Gypsum Ridge Trail in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

  • Gypsum Ridge Trail in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, Alberta, is a moderate out and back trail spanning 6.3km.
  • It offers a manageable winter hike through snowy forests culminating in stunning views of Lower Kananaskis Lake.
  • Mountain Views through the trees throughout, but mostly wooded hike
  • The trail features a fairly steep initial incline, which flattens out once you hit the switchbacks.
  • Potentially requiring snowshoes, depending on if the trail has been packed down yet or not. If it has been packed down then spikes are enough.
  • Does have a fair bit of alders so snowshoes can get trapped
  • The trail may be overgrown in other seasons leading to difficulty finding the trail.
  • Overall, it’s a rewarding hike with picturesque winter landscapes and a breathtaking finale overlooking Lower Kananaskis Lake.
